Book Bag Book and Project-(August - Nov)
Every 2 weeks a new mini-book with a book/project will be due.
Please help your student organize and manage their time. We give plenty of
time to accomplish reading the book multiple times and finish the mini-project.
The Book Bag Project is built into our homework for the week (reading this book can replace the 20 min of reading each night). This homework part will last from the beginning of the year to mid-November, then will be replaced with Kid Biz.
Mahalo for your parent support.
Students are encouraged to log-in to Kid Biz 2 or 3x per week.
Learning UpGrade at least 4x per week for math practice
Remember, students can even accomplish these on the weekend and holidays too:)
Below is a PDF on how to upload Learning UpGrade to your computer or tablet. This is a free app :)
What is the U-Neeck Homework Policy?
I believe that children need time to decompress after school, play, connect with friends and family, and engage in after school sports and activities. Research supports homework that allows reflection, differentiation (everyone getting what they need in different ways), and applies higher-order thinking skills.
What if my child is having difficulty with their homework?
If a child struggles on homework but tries their best, there is absolutely no penalty for incompletion. The student just needs to let the homework checker AND myself know by showing a parent signature with a little note in the planner or a quick parent email to me (can use the Class Dojo for this). Please indicate which problems your child struggled with. It is very possible that others will have the same struggle. We will go over those particular problems together/whole class. Then, if it is still a struggle we will do a bit of one on one tutoring, taking just 5 minutes of recess time. When homework is missing or incomplete, due to illness please do not worry. We give plenty of time to make up homework.
Special Note: Homework should not take longer than 50 min to an hour. If long homework and struggling is happening please stop your student and contact the teachers for modifications and/or adjustment. Homework should be pleasant and productive. If this is not the case let's work together to make sure the experience is a good one.
